                     Recovery is possible

"The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection."

Couples Recovery

Addiction and substance use creates a ripple effect, impacting not just the person using, but also their partner and family. Couple recovery is SO important because relationship stability is a significant predictor for long-term recovery.
When addiction and substance use has penetrated a couples relationship, there are three recoveries occuring: the person with the addiction, their partner, and the relationship.
Couples impacted by addiction & substance use often experience:
  • Problems with intimacy
  • Poor communication
  • Verbal and physical abuse
  • Lack of trust & honesty
  • Financial problems
  • Increased feelings of fear, shame, and anxiety.
  • Isolation from others

How Can Couples Therapy Help?

Couples counseling  may include learning about what addiction is, helping each partner understand how to respond to potential relapse, how to support each other on their recovery journey, how to discuss triggers and develop coping tools, and most importantly regain trust.
